HOUSTON 每 Formerly known as Houston Friends of Chamber Music, Chamber Music Houston＊s new season will focus on making chamber music more accessible, vibrant and enjoyable. The theme of the 2014/15 season, ※New season. New name. New experience,§ showcases the fresh, diverse and exceptional chamber music concert experience. Armed with a new name and new marketing objectives, Chamber Music Houston＊s goal is to convey and share the excitement of chamber music at its best with the Houston Community. True to the core mission of the organization, Chamber Music Houston will bring the world＊s most celebrated chamber music ensembles to Houston for a series of engaging concerts, with an increased interaction between the performers and audience.
The talent in this season＊s line-up is truly remarkable and varies across styles and genres of chamber music. With an enhanced understanding of what concert-goers enjoy and have come to expect, this season＊s performance portfolio will compliment the very thing that sets the chamber music experience apart 每 the closeness and accessibility of the performers, who are open to conversation following the concerts.
Opening the season, and back by popular demand, is the Austin-based Mir車 Quartet, with the Houston Premiere of Gunther Schuller＊s Quartet No. 5. Jerusalem Quartet returns to the Chamber Music Houston stage with its energetic and lyric style.
The organization is pleased to welcome the incredibly talented and renowned Kavafian-Shifrin-Schub Clarinet Trio for its first Houston performance to date with a dynamic, up-beat program. The Modigliani String Quartet will also be performing for the first time in Houston, and will bring a powerful program to the Chamber Music Houston Stage with a rarely performed masterpiece by Dohn芍nyi.
Filling out the series in 2015 are Canadian Brass, the ※world＊s most famous brass group,§ Cantus, an a cappella group renown for its artistic excellence and versatile repertoire, the Vienna Piano Trio will bring an electrifying presence to the stage with its hauntingly beautiful music, and the Jupiter String Quartet with James Dunham will deliver a fresh, breath-taking performance that will lift the spirits of all those in the audience.
※America＊s greatest quartet,§ the Emerson String Quartet, will return to Chamber Music Houston to conclude the season.
The season will offer a diverse repertoire, covering a time frame that ranges from the Classical period to modern composers, with works by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Mendelssohn, as well as pieces by Dohn芍nyi, Stravinsky, Milhaud, Bartok, Ravel, more modern works by Shostakovich, Bolcom, and Schuller＊s Quartet No. 5 will making its Houston Premiere.
