Houston- Civic and business leader, Rogene Gee Calvert, candidate for At-Large Position 3 in this year¡¯s Houston City Council race, posted an outstanding show of support in her first financial report released Monday, July 15. Calvert raised $84,000. This is twice the amount of dollars raised and the largest number of donors than any other candidate in her race.
¡°Rogene Gee Calvert is one of the finest public servants I know and I¡¯m proud that so many people recognize that with these outstanding numbers,¡± commented John Guess, III, Calvert Campaign Treasurer.
Calvert is a native Houstonian and brings years of non-profit, city government and business experience. In addition to over three decades of professional and volunteer positions in the fields of health, education, children and families, seniors and diversity, she spent ten years in City Hall. There she served as chief-of-staff for former At-Large Council member and Mayor Pro tem Gordon Quan and director of personnel and volunteer initiatives for Mayor Bill White. Having worked in her family¡¯s grocery store, she later brought her understanding of small business to assisting the business community while at City Hall, and as president of the Asian Chamber of Commerce working with domestic and international companies.
Her campaign agenda includes preserving, protecting and promoting Houston¡¯s quality of life through a coordinated, comprehensive vision. She also sees a prominent role for smart growth for the future of Houston with the expected increase of the city¡¯s population over the next 20 years.
¡°I want to see more collaboration, communication and coordination among city departments to eliminate redundancy and create more efficient service delivery. Also, I will push for quality education and job training to ensure a competent workforce. Effective government requires open and inclusive leadership that I will provide for our diverse and changing population,¡± says Calvert.
