GHP LAUDS CHEVRON¡¯S DOWNTOWN EXPANSION PLANS ENERGY MAJOR TO BUILD MULTI-STORY SKYSCRAPER, GROW WORKFORCE
The Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) released a statement today regarding Chevron¡¯s recently announced building and workforce expansion plans:
¡°The Greater Houston Partnership applauds Chevron¡¯s decision to expand and create jobs in the heart of Downtown Houston,¡± said GHP President and CEO Bob Harvey. ¡°There is no question that Houston is the ¡®Energy Capital of the World¡¯ and Chevron¡¯s announcement underscores this fact. Chevron is a vital part of Houston¡¯s robust growth and a great corporate citizen. We are elated with today¡¯s announcement.¡±
Harvey continued, ¡°As the primary regional facilitator for economic development projects, GHP was integrally involved in this project coming to fruition. Our team not only facilitated connections between Chevron and local and state officials for incentives and other discussions, but GHP also provided economic impact data and analysis to support this process.¡±
The Chevron project will create an estimated 1,752 direct new jobs. GHP¡¯s Economic Impact Analysis shows that this project will also create 2,164 indirect jobs in the Houston region. The energy giant will build a 50-story, 1.7 million-square-foot building located at 1600 Louisiana Street to house its growing workforce.
Adding to Houston¡¯s stature as a global business destination, GHP assisted 28 company relocations and expansions in 2012, helping to create more than 27,000 jobs and $2.5 billion in capital investment. These projects had an overall economic impact to the region of $4.3 billion.
