Amy Mitchell Seeks Re-Election for Sugar Land City Council, District 3
SUGAR LAND, TX - Amy Mitchell recently announced that she is seeking re-election to Sugar Land City Council in the May 11, 2013 General Election. Ms. Mitchell is currently serving her first term on City Council representing District 3. She is a 19-year resident of Sugar Land and a well-known business professional, long recognized for her dedication to community service.
During her tenure on City Council, Ms. Mitchell served on several City of Sugar Land committees including: the Finance Committee, the Intragovernmental Relations Committee, and the Economic Development Committee. Ms. Mitchell also represented residents of District 3 at numerous official city functions, from the grand openings of Sugar Land Fire Station 7 and Constellation Field, to attending the University of Houston Fort Bend County Days and numerous regional chamber and infrastructure events. Ms. Mitchell was also honored to participate in a wide range of community events including emceeing the Annual Dragon Boat Races and the Aga Khan Partnership Walk and Golf Tournaments, to judging chili cook-offs and cute baby contests for local churches and charities.
As a community leader, Ms. Mitchell remains active with a number of community organizations including, the Sugar Land Exchange Club (past President and Board Member), Sugar Land Citizens Police Academy, Sugar Land Citizens Fire Academy, Sugar Land 101, and Sugar Land Rotary and has served on the Board of the Central Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Mitchell remains a strong advocate for the many educational institutions in Fort Bend. Recently, Ms. Mitchell played a key role as a vocal advocate for keeping Colony Bend Elementary School open. Additionally, Ms. Mitchell regularly volunteers her time to local schools, from making career day presentations at First Colony Middle School, to being an awards presenter at Clements High School, to teaching mediation and litigation skills at the University of Houston Law Center.
Prior to serving on City Council, Ms. Mitchell founded Mitchell and Duff, LLC, one of the first female owned law firms in Fort Bend County. She has earned the highest rating by judges and lawyers for her ethical standards and legal work. Additionally, she was appointed by the State Bar of Texas to serve on the 5A Grievance Committee of the State Bar to oversee the conduct of lawyers in Fort Bend and surrounding areas to uphold the highest ethical standards in the legal profession. Ms. Mitchell was also honored by her peers on the 5A committee when they elected Ms. Mitchell to the maximum term of service for a member of the committee.

Daily I work to understand the issues and policies at hand, to stay informed and be prepared to react and respond to issues in my district. ¡°
As a City Council Member, Ms. Mitchell is known for her accessibility and transparency by using social media as a portal to keep residents in her district updated. ¡°I have never been involved in local Sugar Land politics before¡± said Amy Mitchell supporter Christopher Meyer. ¡°I always see Amy¡¯s posts on Facebook about what she does on City Council. I came to support her because she is always working hard!¡±
Ms. Mitchell recently kicked off her re-election campaign in style at the new Ruggles Green in Sugar Land Town Center. Close to 200 people crossing all professional, social, and political groups came out to show their support for her campaign.
