Alex Wangalex@zzi.net HOUSTON¨DA unique Houston treasure located in Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theatre has entertained and delighted several generations of Houstonians. Pack a picnic basket, a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the performance from the hill, or sit in the brand new seats under the canopy. Approximately 1,700 new seats have just been installed under the canopy. All performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre are FREE OF CHARGE; however, tickets for assigned seating under the canopy are available at the Miller Theatre Box Office on a first-come first-serve basis between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the day of the performance. Only four (4) tickets per person. Remaining tickets are given out one hour before the performance starts. July 21, 11 a.m. This is the story of Kian Long, the slave and lifelong companion of Jane Long, one of the first white women to settle in Texas. Enjoy the historical tale of struggle and survival as Kian recounts the days of the Texas Revolution in the 1830s as seen through the eyes of a slave. Written and directed by Shirley Marks Whitmore. July 22, 11 a.m. Come along on a journey of wonder and make-believe as we discover a world of mischievous monkeys, beautiful birds and cunning tigers. Enjoy an anthology of ancient tales from Asia that teach valuable lessons of love, kindness and friendship. Adaptations by Tracey Wheat and directed by Vincent Victoria. July 23, 11 a.m. All the three billy goats want to do is get across the bridge so they can eat the grass on the other side, but there¡¯s a grumbly, grouchy, bully of a Troll under the bridge who is determined not to let them pass. A rollicking musical production by Kevin M. Reese, directed by Alex Gardner. July 24, 11 a.m. This new adaptation brings to life Alice, White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, Caterpillar, Dormouse, Doorman¨Dand it is even narrated by Lewis Carroll, himself. Lots of fun, clever word play as Alice discovers that a land without rules and logic is not really a Wonderland at all. A very "child-friendly" musical adaptation that is perfect for the whole family. Adapted and directed by Ed Muth. HOUSTON SHAKESPEARE FESTIVALProduced by Houston Shakespeare Festival July 31, August 2, 4, 6, 8, 8:30 p.m. (Captioned performance July 31) One of Shakespeare¡¯s greatest comedies, Twelfth Night ponders love lost and found.
