Alex Wangalex@zzi.net Jan 19, 2009 Contact Information: Neeta Sane HCC Trustee 832-279-8601 www.NeetaSane.com Houston- Houston Community College (HCC) Trustee, Neeta Sane was elected as Vice-Chair of the HCC Board of Trustees on Saturday, Jan 10, 2009. She was in the second year of a 6-year term as the HCC Trustee when she was elected to her new position. "It is an honor for me to be elected Vice-Chair of the HCC Board. Considering the current economic situation, I am looking forward to making HCC an even more significant community asset that will greatly benefit the local community in the short and long terms, through relevant workforce training, early college high school programs and providing academic bridging into 4 year colleges," Sane said on her being elected. HCC has six regional colleges with over 60,000 student population and is one of the largest community colleges in the nation. As the Vice-Chair, Sane will have a strong role in governing HCC to achieve its institutional goals of increasing student success and building economically stronger communities. Sane also serves on board of the national organization of Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American Trustees Association (APINATA) as its Vice President and Chair-Elect. She has been appointed to the Diversity Committee of the National Association of Community College Trustees. As her primary goal in her new position, Sane plans to expand her community outreach program to include low-income and underserved communities through viable community partnerships and increase post-secondary enrollment of students at community colleges. She is focused on initiating research in finding out specific educational needs of the minority students and to expand the existing community college programs and curriculum to accommodate those needs. She also plans to work towards improving student support services for economically disadvantaged students at community colleges. As the Co-Chair of the 2009 Texas Asian American Leadership Summit, Sane plans to help the community by providing indispensable tools and power packed training for the professional growth of Asian Americans through national trainers.
