Each October, the greater Houston Chinese community get together to organize the Multi-Arts Evening Show, to celebrate the founding of the People¡¯s Republic of China. The Show is meant to promote the rich Chinese cultural tradition and enhance Sino-US cultural exchange and mutual understanding. In a short two-hour program, the Show combines traditional Chinese arts such as acrobatics, folk song, Peking opera, dance, martial arts, comedy, with classic Western music such as piano, violin, chorus, and solo. For the past 10 years, a number of well-known performers from China and best local artists have participated the Show. With no doubt, this annual event represents the highest level of Chinese performance that local Houstonians can enjoy. The special treat of this year is a world-class ladies percussion team from Beijing, Red Poppy Ladies¡¯ Percussion, the only one of its kind in the world. Red Poppy aims to combine both Chinese tradition and the sense from new world. She has built up an elegant repertoire and created her music to be an aural-visual featured stage presentation.
In the past five years, Red Poppy has given over 600 performances in different venues and classic events. It has toured many countries such as UK, USA, Canada, Singapore, South Africa, Australia, and South Korea. Last year, Red Poppy gave her awesome special concert in Sydney Concert Hall in Australia.
